Manchester City visit Liverpool on Sunday afternoon as Premier League leaders with a perfect record, in their first match since being found guilty of breaching the league’s financial rules.
They have won all five league games, scoring 13 goals and conceding five. The club have lodged an appeal and continue to deny wrongdoing, and Enzo Maresca said at his press conference that he has complete trust in the club.
Manchester City team news
Phil Foden completes a three-game domestic suspension and is unavailable. Nico O’Reilly (knock), who withdrew from the England squad, and Antoine Semenyo (ankle) are doubts, and neither was addressed at Maresca’s press conference. If O’Reilly misses out, Josko Gvardiol is expected to stay at left-back.
Erling Haaland, who has five league goals this season, is fit to lead the line after limping off for Norway against Portugal, and Maresca said he is “good” after a few days of rest in Marbella. Jeremy Doku may be the safer option on the left than Semenyo, alongside Rayan Cherki and Iliman Ndiaye.
Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez are expected to keep their midfield places. Maresca may stick with the back four that conceded three against Sunderland, with Matheus Nunes, Marc Guehi, Ruben Dias and Gvardiol in front of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Manchester City predicted lineup
Manchester City possible starting XI: Donnarumma; Nunes, Guehi, Dias, Gvardiol; Fernandez, Anderson; Ndiaye, Cherki, Doku; Haaland
