Man Utd to hand Rangnick ‘up to £100m’ in January

Ralf Rangnick will be handed ‘up to £100m’ to spend in January following his appointment as Manchester United’s interim manager.

Rangnick has been named as interim manager until the end of the season and has signed an initial six-month deal, with the German set to then move into a consultatory position at Old Trafford on a two-year contract.

The former director of football for RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg will be handed significant funds to strengthen the squad during the winter window, the Mirror reporting that ‘up to £100m’ will be made available to the 63-year-old.

Amadou Haidara and Christopher Nkunku have been named as potential targets for the January window, as Rangnick looks to reinforce his midfield with the signings of the RB Leipzig duo.

Haidara is believed to have a release clause of around £33m in his contract at the Red Bull Arena and would add quality to a defensive midfield position that has been lacking this season, whilst Nkunku has attracted attention from Europe’s elite following a prolific start to the season.

The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals in 20 appearances this season, including netting a Champions League hat-trick during Leipzig’s 6-3 defeat at Manchester City in September.

United are also expected to compete for the signature of Erling Haaland, with Rangnick having been sporting director at Salzburg during the Borussia Dortmund forward’s emergence at the Austrian side.

United are hopeful Rangnick’s close relationship with the player’s father can provide an advantage in their pursuit of the Norwegian, whose €75m release clause is set to spark a scramble amongst world football’s leading sides this summer.
