Man Utd managerial announcement still ’weeks away’ as Poch waits for his interview

Manchester United’s managerial announcement is still ‘weeks away’ with Mauricio Pochettino awaiting an interview with the Premier League side.

United have stepped up their pursuit of a new manager this week and are understood to have held talks with Erik ten Hag on Monday, with the Ajax coach having emerged as the frontrunner to take charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are still planning discussions with several other candidates, including Pochettino who has held initial talks with United’s football director John Murtough.

The Mail are reporting that Pochettino is waiting to hear back from the club’s board over a formal interview with the Argentine having been a long-term target.

However, United are keen to remain respectable of Paris Saint-Germain’s situation with Pochettino currently in charge at the Parc des Princes.

The former Tottenham manager is expected to leave PSG this summer regardless of whether he is offered the role at Manchester United, with Real Madrid also interested as the Spanish giants consider change.

There is also rival interest in Ten Hag and the Dutchman has reportedly spoken to two other European clubs. He has also not ruled out the prospect of extending his reign at Ajax beyond this season and is contracted until 2023.

Julen Lopetegui, the current coach at Sevilla, is believed to be another name on the Red Devils’ shortlist, alongside Luis Enrique. Securing a deal for Enrique is complicated, however, given the Spain manager’s preference to remain with La Roja until after the World Cup which begins in November.
