Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are all reportedly set to rival Arsenal’s interest in Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
Aouar was linked with a move to the Premier League during last summer’s transfer window and is once again attracting interest from England, with Arsenal set to return with a renewed approach after seeing a €40m bid rejected in 2020.
The 23-year-old has two years remaining on his current contract and Lyon could now cash-in on the one-cap France international, who has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s brightest talents since coming through the club’s academy system.
According to ESPN, Arsenal and Tottenham currently lead the race for the midfielder’s signature, though could now face competition from both Manchester United and Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to view the player as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, who has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and is subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are currently assessing midfield options of their own after seeing Georginio Wijnaldum depart at the expiry of his contract, the Netherlands international having signed for PSG on a free transfer.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked with a host of names including Renato Sanches, Saul Niguez and Youri Tielemans, though are reportedly admirers of Aouar and have been tracking the star’s progress.
However, there is understood to be friction between the Liverpool and Lyon hierarchies following the collapse of Nabil Fekir’s move to Merseyside in 2018.
Tottenham enjoy a more positive relationship with the French side after signing Tanguy Ndombele in 2019 and are keen to reunite Aouar with his former Lyon teammate as the Nuno Espirito Santo era begins in north London.
