Manchester United have already raided Chelsea twice in the last five years with the signings of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic, but could a third player be switching Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford this summer.
It isn’t just Mata and Matic who have crossed the great divide, there have been many great players to play for both Man Utd and Chelsea, although some do go via other clubs such as Romelu Lukaku who moved to Everton before moving to Manchester.
However, according to reports this morning, Willian could be the latest player to swap the Blue shirts of Chelsea to the famous red of Manchester United.
The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since the moment that Jose Mourinho made the Manchester United hot-seat his own. In Mourinho’s final season at Chelsea, where the Portuguese left them struggling in mid-table, Willian was one of the only players who kept performing, while it seemed the rest of the dressing room had downed tools.
Back in November, I wrote this article about why Man Utd should sign Willian, with one of the reasons being that they simply don’t have a dedicated right winger, and despite the signing of Alexis Sanchez, this is still the case.
Now, The Sun are reporting that United will launch another raid on Stamford Bridge in a bid to solve the problem.
The 29-year-old, who has had a fantastic season for the Blues, has just two years remaining on his current deal, and the report claims that Manchester United are now ‘confident’ in landing the Brazilian.
It also says that Chelsea would demand a fee of around £30 million, the same fee that they paid Shakhtar Donetsk to bring him to the Premier League five years ago.
