Manchester United have reportedly ‘made contact’ with Bayern Munich about signing one of their most promising prospects in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are ‘very interested’ in signing youngster Mathys Tel from the Bundesliga champions, according to football journalist Florian Plettenberg – but they could face competition for his signature.
The Sky Sports Deutschland reporter claims that Man United have ‘intensively analysed’ the 18-year-old forward, who has scored six goals in all competitions for Bayern.
Man United have “contacted his management and inquired about a potential transfer in the summer” as they seek another signing for their forward line.
The report adds that Tel still wants to become a ‘Bayern legend’ during his career, but he will “consider his options” if he does not think the club believes in his future.
However, it’s also said that two other Premier League clubs have registered their interest in the player in the past few weeks.
Man United are also still interested in former Bayern striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has scored eight goals in Serie A for Bologna this season.
Who is Mathys Tel?
Born in Sarcelles, France in the year 2005, Mathys Henri Tel came through the youth academy at Paris FC before joining Rennes in 2020.
The French forward made his professional debut when he was just 16 years and 110 days old, taking the record for the club’s youngest ever player from Eduardo Camavinga.
Tel joined Bayern Munich in 2021 for a transfer fee of €28.5 million and signed a five-year contract. In August of that year he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer when he found the net against Viktoria Koln in a cup match. He is also the club’s youngest goalscorer in the Bundesliga.
