Eddie Howe has revealed that Newcastle have had no contact from Manchester United regarding sporting director Dan Ashworth.
Manchester United are understood to be interested in appointing Ashworth as the Red Devils restructure their hierarchy under new minority owners INEOS, with the club having made the Newcastle director their leading target.
Ashworth has won admirers for his work at Brighton and Newcastle, overseeing a successful recruitment process with the former before his move to St James’ Park in 2022.
At his pre-match press conference ahead of facing former club Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend, Howe was questioned on a rumoured approach from Manchester United.
The Magpies’ manager said there has been ‘no contact’ with the Red Devils to date, but called for a quick resolution.
“As we speak now, we have had no contact with anyone [from Manchester United]. It’s quite an unusual situation. Whatever happens, we want a quick resolution. I think it’s a difficult one when you are in the role you need longevity to see the fruits of your labour, the people that have done it the best, have the longevity.
“Dan has had a relatively short time here. We will see what happens, as of yet nothing has happened.
“Football always moves on quickly. I’ll say that regarding the manager’s position, football will continue to work in an efficient way. We would carry on very smoothly.
“I think there has to be a succession plan for everybody, players, managers, there is a strategy from the board above.”
