Man United could sell up to eight players in the summer

Manchester United are embarking on a new era after Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought 25 percent of the club from the Glazers.ย

The British billionaire’s INEOS Group will take over football operations at Old Trafford, which have been a disaster ever since Sir Alex Ferguson and former chief executive David Gill left a decade ago.

The Red Devils have cycled through numerous managers and spent over ยฃ1.5 billion on transfers in that time, with very little to show for it.

The current squad is a mish mash of players brought in by different head coaches with varying philosophies and approaches, and they play like it.

It’s no surprise, then, that media reports are suggesting there will be wholesale changes when the transfer window opens in the summer, with the MEN claiming that Ratcliffe’s team have already “identified several sellable assets” as they look to keep within Financial Fair Play limits.

Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc have been added to the board, while Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox have been heavily linked with joining the club’s new recruitment setup.

We’ve looked at a few of the players they could look to sell ahead of next season as they bid to get Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League.

Eight players Man United could sell in summer transfer window:

Marcus Rashford

The wide forward’s stock has fallen rapidly since his electric performances in the second half of last season. Despite his recent struggles, Rashford would likely garner the biggest transfer fee of any of Manchester United’s current squad.

Paris Saint-Germain, in need of a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe, are long-term admirers.

Antony

United are ‘expected to entertain offers’ for the Brazilian winger, who cost the club a whopping ยฃ86.3m. Having failed to find the net this season, Erik ten Hag has dropped the player who followed him from Ajax to Old Trafford in 2022. The 24-year-old has also been accused of assault by his ex-girlfriend.

Jadon Sancho

A public falling out with Ten Hag culminated with a January loan move to Borussia Dortmund, who are unlikely to turn it into a permanent transfer. Saudi Arabia has been mentioned as a possible destination, but Jadon Sancho‘s future could all hinge on whether or not Ratcliffe sacks the manager at the end of the campaign.

Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has not lined out for Man United since being accused of attempted rape, assault and coercive control in 2021. After charges against the forward were discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service, he joined Getafe on loan and has scored five goals in 22 La Liga appearances.

With his contract expiring in 2025, Ratcliffe has said the club will make a fresh decision on Greenwood’s future in the summer.

Casemiro

The Red Devils shelled out ยฃ60m for Casemiro less than two years ago, but the 32-year-old looks to be on the decline, physically speaking. The former Real Madrid midfielder has reportedly garnered interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Donny van de Beek

Since joining in 2020 from Ajax, Donny van de Beek has failed to make any kind of impact. He is currently on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt, who have an option to buy. He’s made five appearances in the Bundesliga since signing for Frankfurt in January.

Hannibal Mejbri

Manchester United are likely to make Hannibal Mejbri available for sale when the transfer window opens. The Tunisian is currently on loan with Sevilla, who have an option to buy in the deal.

Alvaro Fernandez

Benfica have an option to buy Alvaro Fernandez when his loan deal ends. The 20-year-old Spaniard has never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils.
