Man City ‘strongly’ enter battle for Declan Rice signing

Manchester City have ‘strongly’ entered the race to sign Declan Rice from West Ham with the club preparing a bid for the midfielder.

Rice is set to leave West Ham this summer with the Irons having reluctantly accepted that the club captain will move on, having led the side to a first major trophy in 43 years with Europa Conference League success.

Arsenal have been viewed as the frontrunners to sign the 24-year-old and have had two offers turned down for Rice, the second of which was worth £90m including add-ons.

Manchester United and Manchester City have also been credited with interest and Sky Sports are reporting that the latter are ready to ‘strongly’ enter the race.

The treble-winners have seen their midfield options depleted with Ilkay Gundogan set to sign for Barcelona on a free transfer, while Bernardo Silva has also been linked with an exit.

City are now understood to be working on a bid for Rice, while West Ham are reportedly open to exploring a potential swap-deal that would see Kalvin Phillips move to the London Stadium in the opposite direction.

Phillips has, however, insisted he intends to remain at Manchester City despite a difficult debut season at the Premier League champions.
