Manchester City are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry as the club consider their options ahead of the anticipated departure of Leroy Sane this summer.
Bayern have held a long standing interest in Sane and are expected to return for the Germany international at the end of the season, with City now considering a move to take Gnabry in the opposite direction.
Sane will have just a year remaining on his contract at the Etihad at the end of the campaign and has so far shown no willingness to sign an extension, Pep Guardiola’s side likely to allow the 24-year-old to depart rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer of 2021.
According to the Sun, the Premier League champions will make a move to bring Gnabry back to English football as his replacement, the winger having flourished since returning to the Bundesliga following previous spells at Arsenal and West Brom.
Guardiola has watched the 24-year-old on occasion this summer and has been impressed by his talents, Gnabry having starred for Bayern this season scoring 14 goals in all competitions – including a devastating four-goal haul in the club’s 7-2 thrashing of Tottenham in October.
Despite Gnabry’s improvement in recent seasons Bayern could now be open to a player-plus-cash deal for Sane, the club having seen several bids for the City star rejected last summer before the move was scuppered by a long-term injury suffered by the winger in August’s Community Shield.
