Rooney backs Manchester United’s Maguire interest

Wayne Rooney has backed Manchester United’s pursuit of Leicester defender Harry Maguire.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are keen to strengthen their defensive options this summer, and have reportedly made the 26-year-old their number one transfer target.

Leicester have already rejected an opening bid from the Manchester side and are believed to be holding out for a world-record fee to part with Maguire, who has established himself as England’s first-choice defender following his impressive performances since joining Leicester from Hull City in 2017.

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney, the club’s all-time record goalscorer, believes Maguire would be a good addition to Solskjaer’s squad should United manage to complete a deal before the August 8 deadline.

“I think Harry’s a good player and over the last few years he’s improved as a player,” he told ESPN FC.

“He’s gotten better, and he’s been a main player for Leicester City, but also for England. I think he’d be a good signing if they can get him.”
