Alexis Mac Allister was jubilant after Darwin Nunez claimed a late victory for Liverpool over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
The hosts thought they were about to take a huge point from the game until Mac Allister’s perfect cross found the head of Nunez in the 99th minute.
The result extends the Reds‘ lead at the top of the Premier League table to four points as they seek to win the title before Jurgen Klopp leaves at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
“This is such a special day for us,” Mac Allister said after the final whistle. “To win it like that is not easy. We came to a tough place.
“In that moment I knew it was last minute and I just had to put it in. Darwin is such an important player for us.
“There is no easy game in the Premier League. Very happy, very happy.
“It’s three points. We move onto Thursday.
“We were always positive. Our leaders were keeping the team very positive. We’re a good group, nice players on and off the pitch.”
Liverpool take on Sparta Praha in the Europa League next Thursday before a critical Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
