Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a doubt for Chelsea’s Europa League final and could miss the Nations League finals with England.
The 23-year-old picked up an injury to his left ankle in Chelsea‘s post-season friendly against MLS side New England Revolution, having come on as a second-half substitute in Boston.
Maurizio Sarri will be left infuriated by the injury, especially with the Italian having voiced his displeasure at the club’s commitment to a friendly prior to the final of the Europa League.
Chelsea won the fixture 3-0, courtesy of a brace from Ross Barkley and a goal from Olivier Giroud, in a game that was arranged by owner Roman Abramovich in the Blues’ campaign against anti-semitism.
Loftus-Cheek was seen leaving the ground on crutches and is now a major doubt for both Chelsea and England.
The midfielder has played a prominent role in Chelsea’s run to the final of Europe’s secondary competition, where they will meet Arsenal in the final on May 29.
The news will also be a concern for England boss Gareth Southgate, who is set to announce his squad for this summers Nations League finals on Thursday.
England face the Netherlands on June 6 in Portugal in the Nations League semi-final, before a final or third-placed playoff game against Portugal or Switzerland three days later.
