Liverpool travel to face Manchester United in a huge showdown on Sunday, as Arne Slot experiences their northern rivalry for the first time.
It’s been a perfect start for Slot so far with maximum points from two games, though the Dutchman has, respectfully, acknowledged that tougher tests await than Ipswich Town and Brentford.
Two trips to Old Trafford last season were detrimental to Liverpool‘s ambitions, as the Reds lost a chaotic FA Cup quarter-final 4-3 in extra-time in March, before a 2-2 draw in the Premier League a month later dented their title aspirations.
Liverpool secured the signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus this week in a cut-price ยฃ10.9m deal and there is excitement at what the Italian could bring to a forward line already stacked with talent.

Mohamed Salah has scored in each of Liverpool’s victories in the Premier League so far this season and will be hoping to improve an already formidable record against Manchester United.
Salah has scored 14 goals in 15 career appearances against the Red Devils, more than against any other opponent. The Egyptian became the first-ever opposition player to score a Premier League hat-trick at Old Trafford in a 5-0 win for the Merseysiders in October 2021.

Liverpool team news
Arne Slot has suggested that Federico Chiesa is unlikely to make his debut for Liverpool this weekend. Chiesa is available to selection, though Slot said the forward’s debut could need to wait as he builds an understanding with his new teammates at Anfield.
โHeโs going to train with us today but itโs a bigger chance that he is not in the squad for Sunday than he is,โ Slot told the media on Friday morning.
โIf injuries might come up in the upcoming two days we might need him, but I donโt expect him to be in but I cannot guarantee this.โ
Curtis Jones is Liverpool’s only confirmed absence for the contest, in a fixture that could see Andy Robertson make his 300th appearance for the club. Ibrahima Konate is expected to continue in partnership with Virgil van Dijk at centre-back, having replaced Jarell Quansah in the side.
Ryan Gravenberch should continue as Liverpool’s deepest midfielder after an impressive start to the season for the Dutchman. The 22-year-old has capitalised on the club’s failure to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to stake a claim for a long-term place as Liverpool’s number six.
Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz should maintain their places in the frontline after exciting early-season displays.
Liverpool XI vs Manchester United predicted lineup
Predicted Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Jota, Diaz.
