Liverpool want Darwin Nunez to replace Mane as Bayern prepare second bid

Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Darwin Nunez as a replacement for Sadio Mane, who is the subject of increasing interest from Bayern Munich.

Mane is reported to be keen to call time on his six year stay at Anfield, the Senegalese having won everything there is to win during his time with the Merseyside club.

He is being pursued by German champions Bayern Munich, who have stepped up their interest on Monday after they submitted a £25m bid for the 30-year-old, a bid that was turned down by the Premier League runners up.

According to the Mail, Liverpool want ‘closer to £42.5m’ for the forward who has just one-year left on his current deal, money that will be put towards a replacement.

The report says that Bayern Munich are preparing a new bid of around £30m, with Liverpool keen on signing Benfica’s Darwin Nunez as a potential replacement.

Like Mane, Nunez is comfortable playing centrally or from the left, and has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs, most notably Manchester United, though the Red Devils are at a disadvantage of being unable to offer Champions League football following their sixth-placed finish last season.

The Mail say, however, that Liverpool ‘will not pay over the odds’ for the Uruguayan, with unconfirmed reports in Portugal last week having claimed Manchester United have tabled an offer totalling £89m for the 22-year-old.

Liverpool have however shown themselves to be shrewd operators in the transfer market, and are likely to have a number of alternative targets, with Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma, RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen having previously been linked.
