Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield this weekend as one of the Premier League’s great rivalries resumes.
Arne Slot has overseen a record-breaking start to his career with the club, winning nine of his first 10 games in all competitions – the best ever start of any Liverpool manager. Top of the table heading into October’s international break, the Dutchman will be delighted with the progress his team have showed.
Liverpool boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded just twice from their seven Premier League games in 2024/25.
However, Liverpool’s fixture list steps up significantly in the coming weeks and Chelsea’s visit will be a real examination of Slot’s side.
The West Londoners are also under new management with Enzo Maresca having taken charge in the summer. Maresca has had a positive start to his tenure, with Chelsea fourth in the table and in pursuit of a Champions League return. Chelsea have won all three of their away games so far this season.

The Brazil international was withdrawn during the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace before the break and is facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Caoimhin Kelleher will deputise in goal, having missed the clash at Palace through illness.
Harvey Elliott remains absent for Liverpool with a fractured foot, while a cautious approach will be taken with Federico Chiesa, who is managing an issue.

Cody Gakpo could deputise for the latter on the left-wing.
Curtis Jones will be available after withdrawing from the England squad to attend the birth of his first child.
