Liverpool transfer news: Reds eye €25m Inter defender

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan to solve the club’s right-back issues.

Arne Slot’s side have lacked consistency at right-back this season following the exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer. Conor Bradley’s season-ending injury and Jeremie Frimpong’s underwhelming debut season has contributed to regular change in the role.

Dominik Szoboszlai has featured at right-back on occasion, while fellow midfielder Curtis Jones has deputised in the position in recent weeks.

As a result, The Telegraph are reporting that Liverpool are weighing up an offer for Dumfries, who has a €25m release clause in his contract at Inter.

The Netherlands international has had an ankle issue that has disrupted his season and could be allowed to move on as Inter raise funds for a rebuild.

At 30, he’d deviate from Liverpool’s usual recruitment profile, but his power, pace and availability make him a feasible option to improve defensive depth.

Dumfries has made 205 appearances for Inter across the last five seasons, scoring 27 goals. He’s won two Serie A titles with the club and has twice reached the Champions League final.
