Liverpool make a move for Roma star

Liverpool have made a move to sign Roma goalkeeper Alisson according to reports in Italy.

Alisson, a full Brazil international with 22 caps to his name, is understood to be Liverpool’s top transfer target this summer, and according to Sky Sports Italia, the Reds have opened discussions regarding a potential deal, although talks are only thought to be at the preliminary stages.

It is thought that Liverpool made an inquiry into signing the 26-year-old during the January transfer window and are now trying to strike a deal with Roma to persuade them to sell the player in the coming weeks ahead of a summer move.

Reports in Italy last week suggested that Roma are trying to tie the Brazilian down to a new contract with the club, with the Serie A side rating him as one of the best ‘keepers in Europe. It is thought that they value him at a staggering £62m (€70m) – a fee which would shatter the current world-record for a goalkeeper, which was set last summer when fellow Brazilian ‘keeper Ederson joined Man City for £35m.

With other top teams such as Real Madrid and PSG on the lookout for new goalkeepers, Liverpool are hoping to tie up a deal before any potential competition.

Liverpool have been wrangling with who should be their number one, with Loris Karius seemingly the current first choice. Earlier this week, I looked at the stats to see if it was the right decision by Jurgen Klopp.
