Leicester boss Puel discusses the future of on-loan defender Benkovic

Leicester manager Claude Puel has discussed the future of Filip Benkovic, admitting the defender is likely to remain out on-loan.

The Croatian centre-back signed for Leicester from Dinamo Zagreb for a fee of £13m last summer, before joining Scottish champions Celtic later that month on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old has been a regular for Brendan Rodgers side this season, winning the Scottish League Cup, and Puel admits it may be better for the defender’s long-term development to remain out on-loan.

‘We have a lot of defenders at the club. Assuming we don’t get any injuries, it’s better Filip maintains his loan at Celtic.’ Puel is quoted as saying stv.tv.

Leicester won 1-0 at Everton on Tuesday courtesy of a Jamie Vardy goal, their third win in four league matches.

Puel’s side kick-off their FA Cup campaign this weekend when they face a trip to League Two side Newport County.
