Lazio are reportedly ‘confident’ of securing the free transfer signing of David Silva as the midfielder prepares to leave Manchester City this summer.
Silva has announced he will leave City this summer following a trophy-laden decade at the Etihad, the former Spain international having won four Premier League titles amongst his 11 major honours since moving to English football from Valencia.
The 34-year-old will remain with Pep Guardiola’s side for the remainder of their Champions League campaign as the club bid to win the competition for the first time this season, City meeting Real Madrid in the second leg of their last-16 tie this evening and possessing a 2-1 advantage from their first leg in Spain.
Talks have been held over the veteran’s next destination, with clubs in the USA and the Middle East having been linked with his services. However, according to Sky Sports Italy, Lazio have now emerged as frontrunners for Silva’s signature, the Italian side keen to strengthen their squad after sealing a long-awaited return to the Champions League next season.
Further reports in Italy suggest that Silva has been offered his own private jet and ‘an elegant house’ in the centre of Rome as part of a package to lure him to the Italian capital, Lazio desperate to add quality to a side which finished just five points behind champions Juventus despite a late-season slump.
Silva will depart English football having made 309 appearances in the Premier League, his tally of 93 assists the sixth-highest in the history of the division.
