Liverpool travel to LASK at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz on Wednesday in matchday two of the Champions League league phase.

Andoni Iraola’s side beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 on matchday one but lost 3-0 to Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, a game that was goalless until Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute. They are ninth in the Premier League with nine points from six games and face four matches in 10 days, with Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai all doubtful. LASK lost 1-0 at AEK Athens in their first league-phase match and have not won in four games, most recently going down 2-0 at home to Rapid Vienna.

Dietmar Kühbauer’s side reached the league phase for the first time by beating Celtic 5-1 after extra time in the play-off round, having been 4-0 down on aggregate. They have never beaten an English club (one draw, five defeats), while Liverpool have never lost in Austria in a competitive match (four wins, one draw). The sides have met twice, both in the 2023-24 Europa League group stage, with Liverpool winning 3-1 in Linz and 4-0 at Anfield.

Team news

LASK

Ramiz Harakate is out after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in July. George Bello and Moses Usor both came off injured in the second half of the defeat to Rapid Vienna and may be unavailable. If they miss out, Sasa Kalajdzic and Christoph Lang are expected to lead the attack, with Kasper Jorgensen and Yvan Dibango at wing-back.

Liverpool

Gakpo (ankle), Isak (thigh) and Szoboszlai (hamstring) were not in the travelling squad. Iraola said the three are “not far” but could not say whether any has trained with the group. Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), Giovanni Leoni (anterior cruciate ligament) and Conor Bradley (knee) remain long-term absentees, and Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo are ineligible, having not been included in the league-phase squad list. Gravenberch is available, as his one-match ban applies to the Premier League game at Brentford on Saturday. Virgil van Dijk, who took a painful knock to his calf against City, travelled with the squad.

Form

LASK

LASK won their first seven matches of the domestic season but have not won in four since, losing 1-0 at AEK Athens, 2-1 at Sturm Graz and 2-0 at home to Rapid Vienna either side of a 3-3 draw at Hartberg. Their European record against English opposition is poor, with two defeats and a draw in three home matches, scoring four and conceding 11. They are chasing their first points of the league phase.

Liverpool

Liverpool came from behind to beat Atletico on matchday one through goals from Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. Iraola felt his side were the better team until Gravenberch’s dismissal against City, after which the visitors scored all three goals. The attack is depleted, with Lewis Koumas, who replaced Isak against City, again likely to lead the line. Liverpool have lost only one of their 10 matches against Austrian clubs.

Predicted lineups

LASK predicted XI: Jungwirth; Mbuyamba, Alemao, Andrade; Jorgensen, Ljubicic, Bogarde, Horvath, Dibango; Kalajdzic, Lang

Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Barcola, Wirtz, Ngumoha; Koumas
