Andoni Iraola says he is happy with how his Liverpool team played against Manchester City despite losing heavily at Anfield at the weekend.
City came away from Anfield with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki, ensuring they remain unbeaten at the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds were the better side until Ryan Gravenberch was sent off on the hour mark for a second bookable offence, but collapsed once they went down to ten men.
Iraola feels Liverpool needed to be much better after the red card, but praised his players for their attitude and work rate.
Iraola pleased with Liverpool performance despite Man City defeat
“It’s a matter of us… because we lost at the end we are now trying to find the why,” he said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with LASK.
“I liked the way the team played a lot. Not when we were with 10. I think we didn’t play well with 10. I think we needed to play a lot better with 10.
“I liked the spirit, the attitude, the work rate, the team including the offensive players.”
With just a three-day turnaround between defeat to City and the match against LASK, Iraola has hinted he will make changes to his starting lineup.
“It’s a game that we want to win,” he said. “We want to start this competition strongly. We have already got our first win and we want the second one because we want to win as many games in this competitions.
“But, it’s true because of some niggles, that it is going to be difficult to put the exact same starting XI tomorrow.”
