Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has backed Mason Mount to have a ‘huge influence’ on the club’s season.
The 20-year-old made his debut in the club’s opening Premier League fixture at Manchester United last weekend, though drew criticism following Chelsea’s comprehensive 4-0 defeat.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was critical of Lampard’s inexperienced side following the defeat at Old Trafford, however ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Leicester this weekend, Lampard has defended Mount and has tipped the midfielder to make an impact at the club this season.
“His attitude is so good,” Lampard said in his pre-match press conference.
“He’s so hungry but he’s very understanding of what he needs to be a player.
“He trains every day with absolute application and focus. The impact when he came on on Wednesday (UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool), and the way he played against Manchester United, gives me confidence that this will be the season for him.
“Will he start every game? Probably not. But if he carries on the way he’s going, he’s going to be a huge influence for us this season.”
