Frank Lampard has provided an injury update on several of his Chelsea stars ahead of the club’s Premier League opener this weekend.
Chelsea travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday, with fitness doubts surrounding the likes of N’Golo Kante, Antonio Rudiger and Willian.
France international Kante has been struggled throughout pre-season with a knee problem, however the World Cup winner appeared as a substitute during Chelsea‘s 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.
Speaking in Friday’s pre-match press conference, Lampard has confirmed Kante is fit, but may not start due to a lack of match practice.
Lampard also provided updates on defender Rudiger and Brazilian international Willian. Rudiger has been out of action since the corresponding fixture last season, suffering a meniscus injury at Old Trafford in April.
Willian meanwhile has been absent since suffering a knee injury in Brazil’s Copa America semi-final win over Argentina, and whilst both players have returned to training they are unlikely to feature this weekend.
“We have Kante fit, whether we have him match fit I’m not sure. Rudiger and Willian have been training, but possibly Sunday is too soon for him.”
