‘Take our chances’ – Lampard wants Chelsea to be more clinical

Frank Lampard has called on Chelsea to be clinical in front of goal as the club prepares for their crunch Champions League meeting with Lille at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Chelsea head into the meeting with the Ligue 1 side with their Champions League destiny firmly in their own hands, a draw at Valencia last time out meaning a victory will ensure the club’s progress to the knock-out stages.

However, the Blues have lost three of their past five fixtures in all competitions and are yet to win at home in this season’s group stage, and Lampard has warned his side they must convert their chances if they are to avoid an early elimination from Europe’s elite competition.

“Quite a lot of it has been chance conversion,” Lampard said at his pre-match press conference.

“Away from home we’ve wrapped up some goals and some really good performances. When you score early in the game at Burnley for instance, or Watford, it changes the face of the game.

“When you’re playing relatively well at home but don’t score for 45 minutes, which has been our problem in a lot of games, you add the pressure on yourself.

“We need to take our chances, especially ones that come early in the game. If you’ve got pressure, you need to convert it.”
