Lampard admits Chelsea are in a ‘nice position’ for a top four finish

Frank Lampard admits Chelsea are in a ‘nice position’ to secure a top-four finish following the club’s 4-1 win at Southampton this weekend.

Tammy Abraham’s eighth goal in eight Premier League games opened the scoring at St Mary’s, before further strikes from Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi sealed a comprehensive win for Lampard’s side.

The victory lifted Chelsea up to fifth and level on points with fourth-placed Leicester, and Lampard admits his side are well placed to once again secure Champions League football following a positive showing in the opening weeks of the new season.

“Liverpool are out on their own but we are in a nice position,” Lampard said.

“It should give us determination to go away and come back [from the international break] in the same vein.

“The reason we are playing well is our hard work and how together we are.

“If we can keep going then we will be challenging right up there I hope.”
