Jurgen Klopp has hinted Sadio Mane could feature in Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Norwich on Friday.
The Senegal international only returned to the club on Monday, having been given extended leave due to his participation in this summer’s African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
Mane missed Sunday’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City at Wembley, but Klopp has revealed the 27-year-old could feature when the European champions begin their Premier League campaign at home to newly-promoted Norwich tomorrow.
“He looks fit. Yesterday was the first session with the team. He looks absolutely OK. Yes, he’s an option,” Klopp said in his pre-match press conference.
“We have a lot of options, a lot of different line ups – no player gave me a reason to leave him out, so we have hard decisions on a squad. We have to stay as the team that nobody wants to play against.
“The atmosphere will be good. Our crowd will be waiting for us and we have been waiting for our fans. It’s a while since we played at Anfield. But we have to be ‘in’ the season, always on our toes. Be 100 per cent and create an atmosphere which only Anfield can create.”
