Jurgen Klopp has refused to criticise PSG forward Neymar, saying that some of his reactions to challenges are ‘smart’.
Neymar has never been known for staying on his feet and riding the challenges like the likes of Premier League stars Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez do. However, the £200 million star only managed to enhance his reputation as a diver at the World Cup, consistently and hilariously over exaggerating every challenge that he found himself on the receiving end of.
However, with Liverpool set to face Neymar’s PSG in the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday night, Jurgen Klopp has refused to criticise the Brazilian, instead choosing to call him smart, in what could be a message to the referee to keep a close eye on his antics:
“I don’t know exactly what you are talking about,” Klopp said during his pre-match press conference.
“I saw a few games at the World Cup when it looked like he made a bit more of the situation. That’s a completely normal reaction because players are really going for him. That’s the truth.
“He has to protect himself. If the opponent gets a yellow card he is closer to a red card. It is smart.”
