Klopp urges Liverpool to ‘stay greedy’ ahead of next season’s ‘circus’

Jurgen Klopp wants his Liverpool side to ‘stay greedy’ in their pursuit of major honours as the club look to defend their Premier League title next season.

Liverpool were officially presented with the Premier League trophy following their mid-week victory over Chelsea at Anfield, the Reds crowned as champions of England for the first time in three decades following a record-breaking campaign.

Klopp’s side end a memorable season with a trip to face Newcastle on the Premier League’s final day before embarking on a short break, though the German insists plans for next season are already underway before the ‘circus’ of the new campaign returns.

“We will switch off for a few days but the plans for new season are busy already,” Klopp said at a pre-match press conference.

“An intense season is waiting for all of us. Interesting challenges await and then mid-August, the circus starts again.”

The Premier League have confirmed the delayed start to the 2020/21 season with the campaign set to begin on September 12, and Klopp has outlined the challenges facing his side as they bid to make it back-to-back Premier League crowns.

“We will stay greedy, we have to. We saw on Wednesday that the distance between us and Chelsea is not 30 odd points,” Klopp added.

“We will try to improve everything. If you make a cut when season finishes on Sunday, we enjoy it and be happy and then we start again. From that moment on we will try again. Nothing will hold us back.

“I want to see us fighting for it all on the pitch and if we do that we have a chance. We have to be a team no-one wants to play against. We already are a bit but we can do more.”
