Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Liverpool’s options ahead of the club’s Premier League clash with Newcastle this weekend.
Liverpool host Newcastle in tomorrow’s lunchtime fixture as the Reds look to continue their push for a top four finish, just two points currently separating fourth-placed Chelsea and the champions in seventh.
Ahead of the clash, Klopp has given an update on his options and confirmed Nathaniel Phillips – who missed the 1-1 draw with Leeds on Monday – will once again be absent, though Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones are available for selection.
There was however, no update on Jordan Henderson with Klopp confirming no timescale has been set for the midfielder’s return as he continues his recovery from groin surgery.
“Diogo Jota is fine, Nat Phillips is not back, Curtis Jones is back, all the others not,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
“Do I know when Jordan Henderson is coming back? Not really. Not the next couple of weeks.
Klopp also opened up on the ‘proper fight’ he is expecting from tomorrow’s visitors, with Newcastle heading into the clash following back-to-back wins over Burnley and West Ham.
Those victories have moved the Magpies eight points clear of the relegation places following a disastrous mid-season run of results and Klopp is anticipating a difficult test against Steve Bruce’s side.
“They had a good start to the season and then they dropped off a little bit,” he added.
“They have found a system that works with five at the back. Wilson and Saint-Maximin – proper footballers. They have found their line up and we have a job to do.
“We have to offer a proper, proper fight tomorrow.
“We have to create, we have to score and we have to defend. We only have massively important games left. Six finals, and we have to win them all.”
