Klopp: Liverpool can ‘fail in the most beautiful way’ against Barca

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool can ‘fail in the most beautiful way’ against Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

Liverpool’s hopes of reaching back-to-back Champions League finals were severely dented in the first leg of their last four clash last week, with Lionel Messi scoring twice in a 3-0 win for Barcelona.

The result was harsh on Klopp’s side who dominated for large periods at the Nou Camp, with Liverpool facing a huge task to recover the tie.

Klopp admits the difficulty his side face to reach the final, though has urged his players to give their all to cause an upset.

“We want to celebrate the Champions League campaign, either with a proper finish or another goal. That is the plan: just try. If we can do it, wonderful. If not, then fail in the most beautiful way,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.

”I had these games quite a few times. In my experience, it’s not that before the game you think: ‘Yes, I believe we will do it.’ But I’m completely fine with the chance. Less than them, but we have at least a chance.

“They are halfway through, that’s the absolute truth, but as long as it’s not decided that is the competition. I don’t tell my missus: ‘Wait for me at home, we will have a party after the game because we’ll win it.’

“We have to work for it. We believe in the chance, we believe in the opportunity, not in the result. There are a lot of other components that are important as well. We have to change again obviously and we will see how we deal with that. In general the shape is good and the confidence is there, so we should try it.”
