Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpool’s battling ‘attitude’ after seeing his side go top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win at Southampton.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino earned Liverpool a hard fought win at St Mary’s, Southampton putting up a spirited display and causing a late scare after Danny Ings capitalised on a mistake from goalkeeper Adrian.
Liverpool are yet to reach the standards of last season in their opening two fixtures, though Klopp insists he was pleased with his side’s display and praised the Reds attitude in sealing the three points.
“We like to be old-fashioned to be honest,” said the German.
“Not everything was better in the past but a couple of things were really good.
“I like the attitude of the boys, there was no doubt that if there any chance of Adrian playing, he wants to play.
“And with Millie (Milner), it’s this old-fashioned attitude that I really love.
“We’re not surprised that we won something but we are not used to it as well so we always look a little bit how we react and I liked the reaction a lot; coming here and fighting for the three points, like they were the last three points ever in the Premier League.
“That’s the attitude which brought us to the finals we played and that’s what we have to continue.”
