Klopp gives Liverpool injury update ahead of Wolves clash

Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on his Liverpool squad ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wolves at Anfield.

Liverpool have seen their options depleted following a succession of injuries in recent weeks, with Alisson and James Milner amongst those to have joined an ever-growing injury list.

Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Xherdan Shaqiri are also amongst those on the treatment table at present, whilst both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are expected to miss the majority of the season after undergoing respective knee surgeries.

Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League on goal difference and will be hoping to continue their title challenge with victory over Wolves on Sunday evening, and Klopp has provided an encouraging injury update ahead of the clash.

Naby Keita and Trent Alexander-Arnold are both nearing returns from muscle injuries, with each of the duo in contention to face the Molineux outfit this weekend.

“There’s a chance Naby [Keita] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] are in the squad,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“If they can play, start and play 90 minutes, I don’t know.”

Klopp also provided an update on the fitness of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with the England international yet to feature this season, the midfielder having rejoined first-team training and edging closer to a return to full fitness.

“Looks promising, is on ball work, but we’ll develop that in days and weeks.”
