Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits Sadio Mane is likely to miss the start of the Premier League season, following the forward’s participation in the African Cup of Nations.
Mane has shone during this summer’s tournament in Egypt, scoring three goals for Senegal who have advanced to Friday’s final against Algeria.
Klopp has revealed that the 27-year-old is likely to miss Liverpool‘s opening fixtures of the season following his summer exertions, with a decision to be made following Mane’s return from international duty.
“With Sadio, we have to see about him after the final – how he is feeling and stuff like that,” he told liverpoolfc.com.
“It will be really difficult. 16 days before we play City, his season is finished. We will have to make a decision, but we haven’t made it yet.”
Klopp did however confirm that Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Alisson will join up with the squad at their Evian training camp following their respective international commitments, with the German hopeful the trio will be ready to face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 4.
“Mo and the Brazilians will come for Evian,” he said.
“It means then we have nearly a week until City [in the Community Shield], a strong 12 days until Norwich and then 15 or 16 days until Chelsea [in the Super Cup].
“We have to see. The good thing is, when you have a short break you don’t lose a lot [of fitness].”
