It’s a pretty strong claim, but Heung Min Son reckons that Harry Kane is the “best player in the world”.
The England striker has had a sensation three seasons for Tottenham, and until his recent injury, was on course to land his third successive Premier League golden boot. He even scored more goals than every player in Europe during 2017, even including the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.
Despite the Balon d’Or being a two horse race between Messi and Ronaldo for the last decade, being in the privileged position of working with Kane every day, Son claims that it is in fact his Spurs teammate who is the best in the world at the moment:
“Harry Kane is, of course, a very important player for England because he’s the best player in the world,” Son told Sky Sports News.
“This is football, so sometimes you get injuries, but as Tottenham we need to play without Harry. It’s very sad but the other players have to be ready. I’m not like Harry, I’m just trying to practice every day, but it’s a good opportunity to make something happen.
“I’ve proved a lot of things while at Tottenham in two and a half years, I’ve enjoyed it a lot and I’m really happy to be there because they work hard and this is what I want.”
Son, who in my opinion is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League, has been linked with signing a new contract with the club, but the South Korean remained tight-lipped when asked about his future in north London.
“I’ve played nearly three years at Tottenham,” he added. “I’ve proved a lot of things and I’m just enjoying taking it day-by-day.”
