Jorginho has revealed he is providing Thiago Silva with footballing English lessons in a bid to help the summer signing get up to speed at Chelsea.
Silva formed part of Chelsea‘s exciting summer of recruitment after signing from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, the experienced centre-back arriving to bolster the west London side’s defensive options.
The Brazil international has been tipped to take on a leadership role in the Blues’ backline but must first overcome a language barrier with his new teammates, with Jorginho taking on the role of tutor in a bid to help the 36-year-old settle at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian-born Italy international has revealed he has tried to help Silva by teaching him important football phrases in English, though admitted he is perhaps not the perfect teacher given his own limited knowledge of the language.
“When he has some questions or some doubts he asks me and I try to help him if I can, because my English is not that great,” said Jorginho, as per The Sun.
“I have taught him ‘man on’, ‘turn’ or if he is on the other side ‘switch play’. Things that you need on the pitch. ‘Man on’, ‘drop’ or ‘up’. We try to help each other. That’s what you do on and off the pitch.
“He is happy here. He is a big personality, a big player with lots of experience. He is helping all of us as a group, the younger players, everyone.
“He finds a way to communicate, whether it is with his hands or he speaks to me and I give the information to the other guys. We find a way.”
Silva has made four appearances for Chelsea in all competitions with the club having made an inconsistent start to the season under Frank Lampard, taking eight points from their opening five league fixtures to sit eighth in the Premier League.
The west London side began their Champions League campaign with a goalless draw with Sevilla in midweek and next travel to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
