Iran will take on Egypt this Saturday at Seattle Stadium in their final Group G match, with both teams aiming to secure a place in the knockout stage.Â
Iran remains unbeaten but has drawn both of their matches so far, leaving it in second place in the group standings. They showed great determination in a thrilling 2-2 draw with New Zealand and followed that up with a disciplined defensive performance to hold Belgium to a 0-0 draw.
Iran team news
Head coach Amir Ghalenoei is facing several key fitness concerns ahead of this crucial fixture.
Midfielder Saman Ghoddos is a major doubt after experiencing heavy physical strain during the earlier matches, while defensive midfielder Rouzbeh Cheshmi is also unlikely to be fully fit due to ongoing injury issues.
These concerns add to the earlier absence of striker Sardar Azmoun, who was not included in the squad for the tournament.
There is some positive news for Iran, however, as goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand is confirmed to start after his outstanding display against Belgium, where he notably saved a penalty.
Up front, Mehdi Taremi is expected to lead the line as the lone striker. With only two points so far, Iran realistically needs to win this match at Lumen Field if they want to secure a place in the Round of 32.
Iran predicted lineup
Possible Iran starting XI:Â Beiranvand; Rezaeian, Khalilzadeh, Nemati, Hajsafi, Kanaani; Mohebi, Ezatolahi, Ghoddos, Jahanbakhsh; Taremi
When will the match kick off?
The match will kick off at 4am BST on Saturday, 27th June.
