Inter Milan are set to appoint Cristian Chivu as the club’s new head coach after agreeing terms with Parma boss.
The 44-year-old will return to Inter Milan just months after leaving his role as an academy coach to take charge at Parma.
Chivu was appointed as Parma’s head coach in February and led the side to safety in Serie A. In the relegation places at the time of his arrival, Parma finished 16th to secure another season of top-flight football.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chivu has now agreed terms on a two-year deal with Inter and will replace Simone Inzaghi as head coach.

Inzaghi stepped down from his role following the club’s record-breaking Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The Italian has since taken charge at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Inter had been interested in appointing Cesc Fabregas from Como but were unable to reach an agreement with their divisional rivals. Como had been reluctant to lose Fabregas, who led the newly-promoted side to a top-half finish in 2024/25.
Chivu emerged as the clear alternative and returns to the San Siro with a wealth of experience in the Nerazzurri’s ranks.
The Romanian made 168 appearances for Inter as a player, winning three league titles and the Champions League among his honours. He joined the club’s coaching staff in 2018 and coached various age groups during a seven-year spell on the staff.
