Hull City travel to St James’ Park on Saturday looking to continue an unbeaten start to life back in the Premier League.
Sergej Jakirovic’s side sit fourth on eight points, and a positive result at Newcastle would make them the first promoted club to go unbeaten in their opening five top-flight games since Portsmouth in 2003-04. Hull came within a late Joao Pedro strike of a first-ever away win over Chelsea last weekend, Jakirovic hailing his players’ character in salvaging what he called another “huge result.”

Ilyas Ansah (back), Jack Butland (shoulder), Charlie Hughes and Hidemasa Morita (both groin) remain unavailable, while Elliot Matazo and Darko Gyabi are both ineligible to face parent club Newcastle. Nobel Mendy was taken to hospital after a serious head injury sustained during the draw with Chelsea, with new signing Lucas Herrington, who turned 19 earlier this month, in line to deputise alongside John Egan and Semi Ajayi in central defence.
Jakirovic is not expected to make changes elsewhere in his side, though Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Lucas Gourna-Douath, Tim Iroegbunam, Sorba Thomas and Mohamed-Ali Cho are all pushing to force their way into the starting XI.
