Hughton urges Brighton to stay ‘level-headed’ ahead of Southampton clash

Chris Hughton has urged Brighton to stay ‘level-headed’ as they prepare to face relegation rivals Southampton this weekend.

Hughton’s side host the struggling Saints on Saturday, with just three points and one place separating the two sides.

Back-to-back wins have moved Brighton up to 15th and five points clear of the drop zone ahead of this weekend’s fixture, but Hughton has urged his side to focus on ‘one game at a time’ as they battle to retain their Premier League status.

“We’ve got eight games in four weeks coming up, it’s about us managing that,’’ Hughton told his pre-match press conference.

“It’s very much one game at a time, we can’t afford to think ahead or pick out specific games.

“It’s about making sure we keep level-headed throughout but there’s a good feel about the place at the moment.

“We can’t afford to think about being safe yet – this weekend is a big game against a team in the same area as ourselves.”
