‘Huge mistakes every week’ – Former Man Utd defender slams Maguire

Marcos Rojo has slammed former Manchester United teammate Harry Maguire and says the defender makes ‘huge mistakes every week’.

Rojo spent seven seasons with the Red Devils until his permanent departure in 2021 and has opened up on his frustration at losing his place in the side following Maguire’s arrival at the club from Leicester.

The 33-year-old – who currently plays for Boca Juniors – discussed how he approached former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to discuss his lack of first-team football and revealed how the Norwegian said Maguire’s £80m price-tag meant he ‘had to play’.

The centre-back did not hold back on his criticism of the England international and said he was delighted that compatriot Lisandro Martinez has replaced Maguire in the side this season.

“In 2019 I was playing in the Europa League, but I was really angry with the Manchester coach because he was putting Maguire [in the team] instead of me, who thank god finally they took him out from the starting line-up for Licha [Lisandro] Martinez,” he told TyC Sports.

“One day I went to Solskjaer’s office to tell him to let me leave for the other club or put [me] in the starting line-up, but he told me that Maguire had to play because of the money they paid for him.

“He [Maguire] was making huge mistakes already and I told Solskjaer: ‘Son of a b***h let me play because this guy is making huge mistakes every week’ [laughs].”
