Eddie Howe has refused to comment on speculation linking Newcastle with a move to sign Neymar.
Neymar has been linked with an exit from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and reports have suggested that Newcastle’s owners are keen on a deal to bring the Brazilian to English football.
The club’s Saudi-backed ownership are believed to be interested in a ‘marquee’ arrival at St James’ Park this summer as Newcastle close in on Champions League qualification.
Howe, however, has distanced Newcastle from transfer rumours and insists his immediate focus is on the Premier League run-in. He said the transfer window was ‘secondary at the moment’ as Newcastle push for a top four finish, but admitted the club’s business will be ‘hugely important’.
“I’m not sure who we have been linked with,” Howe told his pre-match press conference.
”The transfer window is secondary at the moment. We are fighting for points in games and that consumes you so much.
“Until we know where we stand in terms of next year it is difficult to predict. The games dictate what happens next year.
“The transfer business is hugely important and I don’t underestimate it. There is work going into it, but you just have to get your priorities right at this stage in the season.”
