Howe expects a ‘great spectacle’ when Newcastle host Arsenal this weekend

Eddie Howe is anticipating a ‘great spectacle’ when Newcastle host Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.

Newcastle take on Arsenal at St James’ Park with both sides having impressed this season. The Magpies are closing in on Champions League qualification after three consecutive wins, ahead of a fixture with an Arsenal team chasing the Premier League title.

Howe’s team are in fine form and have scored 13 goals in their last three league fixtures, including a 6-1 thrashing of Tottenham at St James’ Park last month.

The first meeting between the teams this season saw Howe and Mikel Arteta clash on the touchline during a goalless draw at the Emirates, but the Newcastle boss was full of praise for his Arsenal counterpart as the two meet again this weekend.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for [Arsenal manager] Mikel [Arteta],” Howe told his pre-match press conference.

”I think he has done an incredible job when you consider the team he picked up, and the position they were in, [when compared to] the team he has now and what they are doing.

“That is a brilliant coaching job and you have to admire everything they are doing.

“Within a game you will always have moments where you come up against opponents and there is a bit of confrontation. That is natural and part of the job. No issues from my side.

“Whatever happens it will be a great spectacle between two really good teams.”
