Howe reveals release clause details for in-demand Guimaraes

Eddie Howe has confirmed the release clause in the contract of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will expire at the end of June.

Guimaraes has been linked with leaving Newcastle in the summer as several top clubs circle for the influential star, who has emerged as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders at St James’ Park.

Arsenal and Manchester City are the latest names credited with interest in the Brazil international, while Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are long-term admirers.

Guimaraes has repeatedly expressed his happiness at Newcastle, though a release clause in the region of £100m could lead to his exit at the end of the campaign.

However, Howe has revealed that the clause will expire in June, with the Magpies keen to avoid uncertainty throughout the entire summer transfer window.

“Having that was well planned and structured by the club, in a sense that there’s a sort of finish point,” Howe said on the release clause, ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Sheffield United this weekend.

“We don’t want constant speculation, it’s not healthy for the player or for us.

“It goes without saying we want to keep him, I want to build our team around him. His form has been very good and he seems very happy and settled.

“He’ll be thinking about a very busy summer ahead, where hopefully we can take the team, with him a big part of it. But we aren’t in control of that so let’s see.”
