Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has described Frank Lampard as his ‘idol’, with the highly-rated youngster saying he is ‘enjoying’ being around the first-team at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher, who was named as the club’s Academy Player of the Year, started in Lampard’s first game in charge as Chelsea’s pre-season campaign began with a 1-1 draw with Bohemians in Dublin.
The teenager says Lampard’s return to the club as manager is ‘fantastic’, with the midfielder having idolised the former England international growing up.
‘It’s great working under the gaffer and I have to say that Frank was my idol growing up, so it’s fantastic to have him here as manager,’ Gallagher told chelseafc.com.
‘I’m buzzing with how things are going and I can’t believe it really. Winning Academy Player of the Year was fantastic and then to travel with the squad to Baku was great.
‘Being part of the squad out here is great and I’m really enjoying myself. I just want to keep working hard now.’
