Ander Herrera has insisted that he still has a ‘good relationship’ with Jose Mourinho, despite widespread reports of the Portuguese losing the dressing room during the final months at Manchester United.
Under Mourinho, Manchester United endured a miserable start to the season, picking up just 26 points in his 17 games in charge before being sacked back in December.
However, having been a regular fixture of the United side during Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford, Ander Herrera has remained positive about the former Red Devils boss, and thanked him for improving him as a player, with the Spaniard winning the club’s Player of the Year award in the 2016/17 season.
“The only thing I can say is thank you to him because he improved me as a player. He did everything for the club to try to win,” Herrera told FourFourTwo magazine.
“I became player of the year under him. He did good things for me. I have a good relationship with him and, of course, I spoke to him when he left.
“He texted me a very nice message – something private between me and him. I have so much respect for him.”
