Eden Hazard insists Chelsea ‘have to’ qualify for the Champions League next season.
Chelsea head into this weekend’s clash at Liverpool looking to continue their push to finish in the Premier League‘s top four, with Maurizio Sarri’s side currently three points ahead of London rivals Arsenal having played a game more.
The Blues take a 1-0 advantage into the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Slavia Prague at Stamford Bridge next week, with victory in the tournament offering an alternative route into next season’s Champions League, and Hazard insists Chelsea must qualify for next year’s competition.
“We have to, that’s simple,” Hazard told Chelsea’s official website.
“The only solution is to finish in the top four or win the Europa League. It’s not just about me – the club has to be in the Champions League.
“We missed the Champions League this season so for the fans, the board, the players and staff, this club has to be in the Champions League every year. It’s our challenge and we can do it.
“Every year, we need to start at the beginning of the season thinking we can win a trophy. It’s hard because [Manchester] City and Liverpool are better than Chelsea, but we are Chelsea – the past 10 years we won a lot of trophies.
“It’s just about mentality. If we want to win something we can do it.”
