Kane: ‘Failed season’ if Bayern don’t win Champions League

Harry Kane has said it would be considered a failed season if Bayern Munich do not win the Champions League.

Bayern host Arsenal in the second leg of their quarter-final tie with the aggregate score poised at 2-2 after an entertaining draw in north London.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have endured a disappointing domestic campaign with the Bavarians a distant second behind newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, who have ended Bayern’s dominance of the division with five games to spare.

Bayern also suffered an early exit from the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League remains the last chance for the club to win silverware this season.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Arsenal, Kane has said the season has to be considered a failure if Bayern end without a trophy/

“We still have an opportunity to turn this season into a great season if we win the Champions League,” said Kane.

“Of course, from the club’s point of view it will be a failed season if we don’t win anything this year because we’re expected to win, but all we can do is take that into next year and try and turn that around.”

Kane scored from the penalty spot in the first leg to continue his brilliant record against Arsenal. The former Tottenham forward has now scored 15 goals in 20 career appearances against the north Londoners.

“I had a lot of history with Arsenal, playing for Spurs, for so many years in that north London derby, obviously it was the biggest game of the season every year probably, but it’s a different chapter.

“Maybe it was in the back of my mind, being released (by Arsenal) from a young age, there was always a point to prove, and I feel like I’m the type of player who throughout my whole career has had points to prove. I don’t think that ever leaves you.”
