Haaland reportedly in favour of Madrid move over Premier League switch

Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland is reportedly favouring a move to Real Madrid this summer, rather than securing a switch to the Premier League.

The Norwegian international is arguably the hottest prospect in world football right now, netting his 20th Champions League goal in just 14 appearances against Sevilla last week, while he also brought his Bundesliga tally for the season to 21 goals with a brace against FC Koln on Saturday.

That latest double came in a 2-2 draw against their struggling opponents, a result that has left them four points off the top-four, with the 20-year-old visibly furious after the game as he stormed down the tunnel.

In what’s been a turbulent season that saw boss Lucien Favre axed, Dortmund are facing the very real prospect of missing out on a spot in Europe’s elite competition next season, heightening rumours that Haaland could well leave this summer.

While the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have emerged as potential destinations in recent months, according to Marca, the player is now favouring a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The former Red Bull Salzburg striker does have a £64m release clause in his current contract that comes into effect in 2022, yet the feeling is that he may be allowed to depart at the end of this season, in order for the German side to recoup a larger fee.

Although he only arrived at Signal Iduna Park back in January 2020, it looks as if he is already capable of making another step up to a top-class side, with Madrid seemingly his preferred destination.

Los Blancos have previously been linked with a move for Kylian Mbappe, although with that move seemingly difficult to finance, Haaland may be a more suitable alternative.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are currently second in La Liga and through to the Champions League quarter-final’s, yet all is seemingly not well at the club, with an ageing side perhaps in need of a youthful addition like Haaland.

That being said, the Spanish side are known to be struggling financially, while they also may be wary of bringing in another expensive, high profile signing, following the currently disastrous spell for Eden Hazard.

As for other potential destinations, Thomas Tuchel’s side are said to be keen on the player, despite having only signed Timo Werner last summer, while United are also being linked with a move, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having worked with the youngster at Molde.

Pep Guardiola is also an admirer is is said to be considering a move as he looks for a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero.
