Viktor Gyokeres is the number one transfer target as Arsenal search to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.
Gyokeres’ goalscoring form has alerted Europe’s top clubs after a stunning first season with Sporting Lisbon, where the forward has scored 33 goals and laid on 12 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.
A €20m arrival from Championship side Coventry City last summer, Gyokeres has exploded in his first campaign in a top-level European league. The 25-year-old’s prolific form has taken Sporting to the top of Portugal’s Primeira Liga table and attracted interest from Europe’s wealthiest clubs.
Football Transfers have revealed that Gyokeres is now the leading transfer target for Arsenal heading into the summer as Mikel Arteta looks to bring in a centre-forward.
Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have combined for just nine Premier League goals this season and the signing of a reliable number nine is viewed as the next step in Arsenal’s rebuild.
Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen have also been linked with Arsenal, though Gyokeres is understood to be viewed as the best fit for Arteta’s team.
The Swedish striker’s mobility and ball-carrying appear suited to a fluid forward line in north London, offering an interchange of positions with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka in the wide roles.
Sporting set the forward’s release clause at €100m (£85.4m) when Gyokeres signed for the club last summer and Coventry could receive a windfall with the Sky Blues entitled to 10 to 15% of any profit.
